A matcha-themed town opened on May 29 in Tongren City, southwest China's Guizhou Province.

Integrating traditional Chinese tea aesthetics and street styles of the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties, the town delivers immersive experiences including tea tasting, sightseeing, performances and shopping.

Known as China's "Matcha Capital," Tongren ranks first nationwide in matcha production and sales. In 2025, its matcha output hit 2,500 tons, generating an output value of 500 million yuan ($74 million). Of the total, 1,300 tons were exported, making Tongren the world's second largest matcha exporter. Its products are available in more than 30 cities across China and sold to 54 countries and regions worldwide.
