At the 7th China-CEEC Local Leaders' Meeting and 2026 Shandong International Friendship Cities Cooperation and Exchange Week, South Africa's Western Cape Provincial Minister of Social Development Jaco Londt said cooperation between Shandong and the Western Cape has continued to deepen across agriculture, healthcare, trade and youth exchanges.
He praised China's zero-tariff policy for African countries, saying it creates new opportunities for a continent facing high unemployment. Londt also highlighted Chinese investment in the Western Cape and expressed hope for stronger people-to-people exchanges between young people from both sides.
Calling Shandong one of the Western Cape's longest-standing international partners, Londt said the two regions share many similarities as major coastal and agricultural provinces. He also welcomed more Chinese visitors to Cape Town and voiced hope for future direct flights between the two sides.
