The starlight of the Song Dynasty congeals into a Jian ware bowl.
The Jian Kiln, named after its location in the Jianzhou Prefecture of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), was an important ancient center for firing black-glazed porcelain. It first emerged in the late Tang and Five Dynasties period, initially on a modest scale, producing primarily celadon and sauce-glazed wares. With the arrival of the Song Dynasty, the kiln flourished and its fires burned brightly. In the early Northern Song period, the renowned black-glazed tea bowl – the "Jian Zhan" – was born. Its glaze colors vary endlessly, and its textures carry a distinct Eastern charm.
