A rare Oriental darter has made its first recorded appearance in south China's Guangdong, spotted on Bird Island at Huizhou West Lake. Experts say its visit points to abundant fish, quiet habitat, and a healthier ecosystem. Huizhou has now recorded 330+ bird species. In recent years, rare species such as the whiskered tern, the white-eared night heron, and the Oriental stork have also been observed in the city for the first time. Experts say these new arrivals are a strong sign of Huizhou's improving biodiversity and healthier wetland ecosystem.
