At the recent Beijing summit, China and the US leaders agreed to build a "constructive relationship of strategic stability." But what does that mean for the rest of the region?

Speaking to CGTN anchor Xu Qinduo at the Shangri-La Dialogue, Singapore's Minister for Defence and Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing said the meeting sets a positive tone and provides a good basis for the relationship moving forward.

For ASEAN countries, a more stable China-US relationship could mean more breathing room. But Chan also cautions that both Washington and Beijing still have unresolved issues. The key, he says, is approaching those challenges with the right attitude and a spirit of collaboration.

"Much work remains to be done," Chan concluded.
