China has always been a reliable friend to Latin American and Caribbean countries and stands ready to work with regional countries, including Brazil, to further deepen and expand overall China-Latin America cooperation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during the fifth China-Brazil Foreign Ministerial-Level Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira in Beijing.

Wang said China and Brazil have maintained close coordination on the international stage, demonstrating a sense of responsibility and emerging as a vital force for maintaining stability and promoting development in today's world.

He called for the two sides to implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, continue to deepen the building of the China-Brazil community with a shared future, and jointly respond to various external challenges.

Wang also urged both countries to generate greater synergy to advance their respective modernization processes and the collective unity and self-strengthening of Global South countries, and provide more much-needed certainty to a volatile world.

The two sides should enhance communication and coordination within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and BRICS, actively act on the four major global initiatives, and work to establish a more just and equitable global governance system, safeguard world peace and stability, and defend the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, he added.

Vieira said the Brazil-China relationship is a benchmark for developing countries in upholding independence, strengthening solidarity and enhancing coordination.

It also serves as a model for the development of stable and predictable relations between major countries, he said, adding that friendship is the defining feature of bilateral ties.

Brazil firmly adheres to the one-China principle, and looks forward to consolidating strategic mutual trust with China, deepening practical cooperation, strengthening the foundation of public support, and achieving prosperity for both, Vieira said.

Brazil stands ready to enhance multilateral coordination with China, jointly advance the reform of the global governance system, uphold the authority of the United Nations, and promote international fairness and justice, he said.

The two sides also conducted comprehensive and in-depth strategic communications on international and regional issues of mutual interest, reaching broad consensus.
