China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong on Monday urged all parties involved in the recent drone incident in Romania to remain calm and exercise restraint.

Speaking at an emergency open meeting of the UN Security Council, Fu emphasized the need for dialogue and communication to clarify facts, resolve disputes and prevent further escalation.

According to Romania's Defense Ministry, a Russian drone on Friday crashed onto the roof of a block of flats in the southeastern Romanian city of Galati, injuring two people.

Fu said the incident is an external spillover of the ongoing Ukraine crisis. He warned that if the situation in Ukraine keeps worsening and eventually spirals out of control, it could lead to serious and irreparable consequences.

He stressed that regional countries and the international community must work together to de-escalate tensions, engage in more calm and sincere dialogue, and avoid provocative rhetoric that could further inflame the situation. Fu said that the only way to prevent similar incidents is to achieve a political resolution to the Ukraine crisis as soon as possible.

Fu said China has consistently called for a ceasefire, promotes dialogue and negotiation, and supports a political solution. He expressed hope that all relevant parties will resume talks, address each other's legitimate security concerns properly, and strive for an early peace agreement.

"China is willing to work with the international community to continue playing a constructive role in advancing a political resolution of the crisis," Fu said.
