Live: Latest on Middle East tensions amid ambiguity over US-Iran deal

Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, on Monday blamed the slow pace of efforts to end the US-Iran conflict on a lack of trust, contradictory positions from Washington and continued Israeli attacks in the region. Baghaei added that Tehran viewed Israeli actions in the region, including in Lebanon, as inseparable from those of the US, adding that any agreement to end the regional conflict would have to include implementation of the Lebanon ceasefire. Baghaei's comments on Lebanon followed an order by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the military to resume strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh.

US President Donald Trump told ABC News on Monday that he thought a deal with Iran could happen "over the next week." In a Truth Social post on the same day, he said talks with Iran were continuing "at a rapid pace," as Iranian media earlier reported that Iran had halted message exchanges with the US via mediation over Israel's actions in Lebanon.
