On the northeastern edge of the Gurbantünggüt Desert lies the hometown of large-fruited sea buckthorn in China, where the planting area has reached nearly 70,000 hectares over the past two decades. Sea buckthorn not only fixes sand but also boosts local incomes. Pioneer Cai Yongguo went beyond planting to develop over ten products, including seed oil and capsules, benefiting local herdsmen and farmers who make up 80% of the workforce. What started as a tool for desert control has become a driver of prosperity, restoring the land and lifting livelihoods, a win for both people and the environment.
