The UN is searching for its next chief, since Antonio Guterres' term ends by 2026 end.

The UN secretary-general candidates are engaging in a series of global and regional debates as well as diplomatic forums over the next few weeks.

There are currently five candidates in the race: Michelle Bachelet Jeria, Rafael Mariano Grossi, Rebeca Grynspan Mayufis, Maria Fernanda Espinosa and Macky Sall.

The upcoming UN secretary-general is expected to be officially announced and appointed during the UN General Assembly in September.
