Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on Wednesday reaffirmed the country's commitment to working with all parties to continue firmly supporting the United Nations in playing its core role and promoting a more just and equitable global governance system.
Han made the remarks during a meeting with Michelle Bachelet, a candidate for the next UN secretary-general, in Beijing.
As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China will fulfill its responsibilities, uphold a fair stance, defend the authority of the UN, and safeguard the common interests of the Global South, he said.
Bachelet, on her part, said she highly commends China's longstanding commitment to multilateralism and the cause of the UN.
She expressed support for a balanced advancement of the UN's three pillars of peace, development and human rights, adhering to the member state-led principle of the UN, and enhancing the UN's efficiency and effectiveness through reforms.
Bachelet expressed her readiness to work with China in upholding the founding principles and aspirations of the UN, and in jointly strengthening the UN's role.
