A whale shark was spotted swimming alongside a small fishing boat off Fangchenggang in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday. A local fisherman encountered the whale shark near an offshore wind power project in the Beibu Gulf, where it briefly swam beside his boat before moving away. Whale sharks commonly migrate to the Beibu Gulf in May and June, attracted by abundant food during the summer fishing moratorium.
