Forestry and grassland authorities in Sunan Yugur Autonomous County, northwest China's Gansu Province, rescued an injured snow leopard after it was found in the backyard of a local resident's home recently. Officials said the animal, a first-class protected species in China, may have been injured in a territorial fight before wandering downhill. The snow leopard has been transferred to a temporary rescue site, where it is receiving wound treatment, nutrition support and parasite removal. It is expected to be released back into its wild habitat in the Qilian Mountains after recovery.
