German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has urged Israel to show restraint in Lebanon and called for Hezbollah to lay down arms. At a joint press conference alongside Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar, Merz asked both sides to uphold the ceasefire agreed upon in April. Merz's comments come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces domestic criticism for halting Israeli strikes on Beirut at the request of the US.
