China's top legislator Zhao Leji met with Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Lao president, in Beijing on Friday, with both sides pledging to deepen legislative exchanges.

Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said that under the strategic guidance of the top leaders of both countries, China-Laos relations are at their best in history.

China is ready to work with Laos to implement the strategic consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and two countries, and jointly build a high-standard, high-quality and high-level China-Laos community with a shared future, said Zhao, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

He added that China's NPC stands ready to deepen multi-level and multi-sector cooperation with the Lao National Assembly, conduct exchanges on the building of the rule of law and legislation, and provide legal safeguards for the modernization of both countries.

For his part, Thongloun said no matter how the international landscape may evolve, the building of the Laos-China community with a shared future will continue to consolidate and grow. He expressed the hope that the legislative bodies of both countries will deepen exchanges in areas such as legislation, to contribute to the advancement of Laos-China relations.
