A brood of Baer's pochard ducklings, a critically endangered waterbird species, has hatched and left their nest. They were seen swimming and foraging among the reeds with adult birds in Longhu Lake, central China's Henan Province. With fewer than 2,600 Baer's pochards left worldwide, every new chick matters. Thanks to long-term wetland restoration and wildlife protection, the lake has become a safe home for rare waterbirds, including around 30 resident Baer's pochards.
