A high-level meeting of Palestinian factions was held on Sunday in the presence of Egyptian, Qatari and Turkish mediators to discuss the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

The meeting occurred as several key clauses of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel have hit snags, including issues related to disarmament and the reconstruction of the strip.

According to Egypt's Al-Qahera News channel, the meeting focused on a proposed roadmap for completing the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.

The Hamas delegation said that disarming the resistance in Gaza should come after a full Israeli withdrawal from the strip to enter the second phase of the agreement, stressing that weapons cannot be removed while Israel remains in Gaza, Xinhua reported citing Egyptian sources.

The discussions also addressed the administration of Gaza during the current phase and Hamas' position on handing over the administration of the enclave to a Palestinian committee, the sources told Xinhua.

Participants agreed on the need to finalize the implementation of US President Donald Trump's 20-point peace plan, particularly all resolutions of the first phase.

The first phase of the ceasefire agreement included the exchange of prisoners and detainees, the entry of humanitarian supplies into the strip, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from parts of Gaza.

At least 961 Palestinians have been killed and 3,020 injured in the enclave since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025, bringing the total death toll in the Gaza war that began on October 7, 2023, to 72,971, with 173,012 injuries, according to the latest updates by Gaza-based health authorities.
