Iran on Monday announced the cancellation of all flights at Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport until further notice, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

Earlier in the day, Iran's Civil Aviation Organization closed the country's western airspace until further notice, citing "security and safety assessments." Flights at Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport were also suspended.

The closures were enforced amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel over the past few hours.

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Sunday that its aerospace force had launched ballistic missiles at the Ramat David Air Base in northern Israel in response to Israel's "widespread crimes" in southern Lebanon, including the killing and displacement of civilians.

The Israeli Air Force struck military targets in western and central Iran, as well as "several targets" at a petrochemical complex in Iran's southwestern port city of Mahshahr.

The IRGC later said its aerospace force had targeted two "important and strategic" Israeli air bases on Monday morning in retaliation for Israel's attacks earlier in the day.
