China on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the escalating situation in the Middle East and urged all sides to be calm, restrained, and pursue a political and diplomatic solution.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular news briefing when responding to reports that the US had launched three new rounds of strikes against Iran, followed by Iranian attacks targeting US military bases in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain.
"China is deeply concerned about the current situation involving Iran," Lin said. He called on all relevant parties to be calm and restrained, refrain from actions that could further inflame tensions, and take concrete steps to ease the situation.
Lin stressed that disputes should be resolved through political and diplomatic means, adding that efforts should be made to achieve a full and lasting ceasefire as soon as possible.
