The Quanzhou-Kinmen "Mini Three Links" passenger route has carried more than 1.6 million passenger trips since its launch on June 8, 2006, an official said Wednesday.
Zhang Han, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said a 20th anniversary event was held on Monday in east China's Quanzhou City, attended by more than 100 compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Zhang called the route, a direct ferry service, one of the most important and convenient channels for exchanges between the two sides, especially for residents in east China's Fujian and Taiwan.
Thanks to its short distance, the route has continuously brought the Quanzhou and Kinmen residents closer, Zhang said.
Through the route, people on both sides of the strait can visit relatives, trace their roots, pursue employment and business opportunities, and engage in tourism and cultural exchanges, which fosters ever-closer ties, Zhang added.
