The Fifth China Media Group (CMG) Forum was held in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on Wednesday.

Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the opening ceremony via video link and delivered a speech. Yuan Jiajun, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, also attended the ceremony in person and addressed participants.

Participants said that under the guidance of President Xi Jinping's congratulatory letter to the inaugural CMG Forum, the event has become an important platform for media organizations around the world to deepen exchanges and promote mutual learning. They noted that a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, represented by artificial intelligence (AI), is continuously reshaping production, lifestyles, learning and work. China's AI Plus initiative is creating new opportunities and opening up broader space for development cooperation between China and the rest of the world.

Participants said AI is having a profound impact on the media landscape and public opinion ecosystem. They called for advancing the application of AI in news reporting, cultural communication and public services, while accelerating media transformation through innovation. They also stressed the importance of promoting the common values of humanity, building international consensus on global AI governance, and ensuring that digital and intelligent technologies remain people-centered and used for the common good. Participants further called for implementing the Global Civilization Initiative and building online platforms for exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations to promote closer ties between peoples.

Jointly hosted by the CMG and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, this year's forum was held under the theme "Upholding and Reshaping: The Media's Mission in the Intelligent Era." Around 300 representatives from government agencies, international organizations, media institutions, Chinese and foreign think tanks, multinational companies and other sectors attended the event.
