The 1986 UN Declaration on the Right to Development enshrines it as an inalienable human right for every human being and all peoples of the world. 

Forty years on from its adoption, the 2026 Forum on Global Human Rights Governance opened in Beijing on Thursday, bringing together 400 Chinese and international guests from over 100 countries, along with United Nations representatives, to discuss the role of development in advancing human rights.
