Li Mei, a 36-year-old woman from Yuncheng, Shanxi Province, is the inheritor of Fanlihua — also known as paper flip flowers — a traditional craft listed as China's intangible cultural heritage. Three years ago, she quit her stable job teaching English, and took over the family workshop to save the fading craft. She learned everything from scratch, and now masters over 20 intricate steps including paste making, cutting and gluing paper, crescent shape trimming, hand-dyeing and assembly. Her dream is to share this magical folk art with the world.
