Seven people were killed and 17 others injured in an explosion in Xing'an County, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, local authorities said on Thursday.

A preliminary investigation has ruled out pipeline gas as the cause of the explosion. Police are conducting further investigations into the cause of the incident.

Rescue operations are still underway.
