A palace embroidery cultural inheritance institute recently opened its doors in Beijing's Chaoyang District, bringing the ancient craft closer to today's modern society.

Chaoyang Jingxiu Cultural Inheritance Institute is a new space dedicated to showcasing the beauty and craftsmanship of Beijing embroidery, also known as jingxiu or gongtingxiu (the palace embroidery) in Chinese.

At the launch ceremony on June 12, Bi Hong, head of the institute, pledged they will host art lectures, public classes and hands-on workshops, letting visitors experience the intricate needlework that once adorned imperial garments. Permanent and rotating exhibitions showcase both historical court costumes and contemporary works, while training programs guide participants from pattern design to basic stitching.

Additionally, the institute will serve as a practical base for design students from colleges to develop skills. Through these partnership programs, the institute aims to explore a sustainable "intangible cultural heritage + education" model for promotion and innovation.
