EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a post on X on Monday that she welcomes the agreement reached between the US and Iran, adding that the priority now should be its "swift and full implementation by all parties."
In her post, von der Leyen said, "This agreement should allow for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz."
"It opens the door to broader negotiations on peace and security in the Middle East," she added.
The EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, described the framework deal as "a potential breakthrough," saying the agreement could "give much-needed space for deeper negotiations" on Iran's nuclear programme and other critical issues.
Kallas also signaled that the EU is exploring how it can be engaged in the next phase following the signing of the peace deal.
"Once implemented, the deal should also ease the global energy crisis," she added. "I have spoken to my Iranian and Gulf counterparts in recent days, and today, EU foreign ministers will discuss how the EU can be closely involved in the next phase."
