As football fever sweeps the globe during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a 3v3 fully autonomous robot football match took place on June 13 at Beijing's Zhongguancun Embodied Intelligence Innovation Industrial Park.
The robot players located the ball, moved, dribbled and shot entirely on their own, while occasional falls and mistakes provided valuable data for further improvement.
Serving as a real-world testbed for embodied AI, the match helped advance key capabilities of robots including perception, decision-making, motion control and teamwork in dynamic environments.
Beyond football, robots also performed a traditional Chinese lion dance, demonstrating how embodied intelligence technologies are moving from research and development into practical applications across industries, services and everyday life.
