Iran's Supreme National Security Council said early Monday that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Tehran and Washington had been finalized and that all military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon, had ceased immediately and permanently. Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency also reported on Monday that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen following the signing of an Iran-US peace memorandum on Friday.
Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Monday that Israel would not withdraw its troops from Lebanon, Syria or Gaza. The Israeli government has also extended the nationwide state of emergency through June 30.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that Pakistan will host the official signing ceremony for the agreement between the United States and Iran on Friday in Geneva, Switzerland. Addressing a session of the lower house of Pakistan's parliament, Sharif said the peace process had faced several moments when it appeared at risk of collapse, but sustained diplomatic efforts helped keep it on track. He added that Pakistan's leadership remained actively engaged throughout the process, advocating restraint, dialogue and a peaceful resolution. According to Sharif, the development reflects the importance of dialogue and collective diplomatic engagement in resolving complex international disputes.
