The wetlands in Eryuan County, southwest China's Yunnan Province, are in peak breeding season for migratory birds that spend the summer there. Populations of rare species such as glossy ibises, pheasant-tailed jacanas, cotton pygmy geese, Asian openbills and black-winged stilts have reached new highs. Local ecological restoration has helped floating-leaved plants flourish, creating an ideal habitat for birds to rest and nest, and raise their young.
