Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met on Wednesday with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, who are in Beijing for medical check-ups and recuperation.
Wang said the China-Cambodia friendship was forged by King Father Norodom Sihanouk and previous generations of Chinese leaders. This year marks the 70th anniversary of King Father Sihanouk's first visit to China. Wang said over the past seven decades, despite changes in the international landscape, the two countries have consistently maintained mutual respect, sincerity and trust, setting a model for state-to-state relations.
He noted that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China–Cambodia relations have entered a new stage. China stands ready to work with Cambodia to carry forward their traditional friendship, strengthen strategic mutual trust and deepen practical cooperation, delivering greater benefits for both peoples and contributing to regional and global peace, Wang stated.
King Sihamoni and Queen Mother Monineath expressed appreciation for China's long-term support, including its well-organized medical arrangements for the Cambodian royal family and assistance for Cambodia's economic and social development.
They stated that Cambodia highly values its traditional friendship with China, saying that regardless of changes in the international situation, Cambodia will remain China's "best friend." They also extended their wishes for China's prosperity and the well-being of its people.
