The signing of the first-phase memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran carries positive significance for easing tensions and consolidating the ceasefire momentum, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Thursday at a regular press briefing.
According to reports, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, had digitally signed the MoU between the two countries on ending the war.
China welcomes this and hopes that all relevant parties, including the US and Iran, will uphold the spirit of contract and earnestly fulfill their commitments, Lin said.
Force cannot solve problems, and equal negotiation is the correct choice, Lin said, expressing hope that both the US and Iran will approach the second-phase negotiations with a rational and pragmatic attitude, meet each other halfway, and work together to strive for positive results in the next phase of negotiations.
