South China responds to flooding as torrential rains continue

Heavy rainfall continues to affect parts of southern China in recent days, with provincial regions hit by torrential downpours on Wednesday. Local authorities launched emergency response measures, carrying out rescue operations and efforts to safeguard residents' daily lives.

In Guigang, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, days of heavy rainfall caused widespread urban flooding, with rivers swelling and drainage systems operating at full capacity.

Emergency crews carried out drainage and rescue work, while firefighters deployed high-capacity pumps in affected neighborhoods where more than 100 households were impacted.

In Beihai, Guangxi, astronomical high tides combined with continuous rainfall caused seawater inundation and flooding on some low-lying coastal roads.

Water levels at several monitoring stations exceeded warning thresholds, prompting authorities to issue alerts and redirect traffic.

In Lufeng, Guangdong Province, floodwaters triggered by days of intense rainfall have gradually receded. Authorities are continuing drainage, cleanup, relief supply distribution and epidemic-prevention measures.

As of 6 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities had set up 21 temporary shelters in Jiaxi Town, Lufeng, and relocated 496 residents.

In Ningde, Fujian Province, persistent rainfall saturated the soil and triggered a landslide on a section of Provincial Highway 207 on Wednesday, temporarily disrupting traffic. After more than five hours of emergency clearance work, the road was reopened to two-way traffic later that day.
