Toy Story 5 is racing ahead at the 2026 Dragon Boat Festival holiday box office, grossing over 60 million yuan (about $8.3 million) in just two days since its nationwide release in China, according to box office data tracker Maoyan.

As of Friday, the three-day Dragon Boat Festival period, June 19-21, has already surpassed 200 million yuan in total box office receipts, with Pixar's latest installment leading the pack. The total box office (including pre-sales) for the 2026 summer movie season has exceeded 1 billion yuan.

On Friday, a special fan activity was held in Beijing, drawing families, "Toy Story" enthusiasts and toy collectors to a cinema for interactive experiences including a screening and a post-show discussion.

The event highlighted the film's cross-generational appeal. Toy collectors shared stories behind their custom creations, while parents and children engaged in candid conversations about traditional toys versus digital ones.

Audiences of all ages found common ground – not just in the friendship story on screen, but in the real-world connections forged around it.
