Annual freight train trips have skyrocketed 10.8-fold since the unified China-Europe Railway Express was launched in 2016, from 1,702 journeys to 20,022 in 2025, according to data released by China State Railway Group. That's an average annual growth of 31.5%. Since 2020, annual operations have never dipped below 10,000 trips.
