We Talk: From oil prices to tourism – How the US-Israel-Iran conflict hits Thai livelihoods

Global Stringer

Iranian and US delegations are scheduled to meet in Switzerland as diplomatic engagement resumes. US Vice President JD Vance is expected to take part in the technical talks, which are viewed as a renewed effort to move the diplomatic process forward. Recently, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding. Measured in figures, this conflict has come at a heavy price, with direct economic losses and warfare costs soaring to hundreds of billions of dollars, while its spillover effects drag down global economic growth forecasts.

CGTN Stringer in Bangkok asked local residents about their views on the conflict. Residents said that the seemingly distant war is impacting their daily lives through oil prices, transportation and tourism, with tourist-dependent sectors such as catering and hospitality facing even greater pressure. Ordinary people are being forced to bear the ripple effects of the conflict, and their most heartfelt wish remains simple: peace and a return to normal life.
