Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei said his team was given less than 16 hours to prepare for its World Cup clash with Belgium, forcing players to cut short their training. The coach questioned why Iran was not allowed greater flexibility earlier in the tournament after being told the team could have more control over its travel arrangements for its final group-stage match in Seattle.

Ghalenoei said Iran was not protesting but expressing legitimate grievances, while also linking the team's challenges to the hardships faced by the Iranian people. Despite the frustrations, he praised FIFA's President Gianni Infantino for trying to ease the situation and thanked US authorities for facilitating the team's entry procedures.

Belgium earned a goalless draw with Iran in the second-round match of FIFA World Cup 2026 Group G on Sunday.
