After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Rewi Alley remained committed to promoting friendship between China and New Zealand. In 1952, he helped establish the New Zealand China Friendship Society and encouraged more New Zealanders to visit China and witness the country's development firsthand. Through people-to-people contacts, he continued introducing China to New Zealand and the wider international community. Even in the final years of his life, Alley remained dedicated to strengthening ties between the two countries.
