A Choice: A US journalist who brought the story of the CPC to the world

In 1928, US journalist Edgar Snow came to China. After years of observing Chinese society in wartime and gaining insight into the hard lives of ordinary people, he gradually turned his attention to the Communist Party of China (CPC). In 1936, at a time when little was known internationally about the CPC and the Chinese Red Army, Snow made the journey to northern Shaanxi, where he documented the realities of the CPC through interviews and firsthand observation. The publication of "Red Star Over China" gave readers around the world their first systematic understanding of the CPC, the Chinese Red Army and the revolutionary cause they pursued. Through the perspectives of an expert who have long studied Snow and his work, this episode of "The Choice" revisited the life of Snow and explored why he chose to engage with the CPC.
