The United States and Iran should jointly safeguard and implement the memorandum of understanding (MoU) they have signed, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday.

Guo told a press briefing that the United States and Iran signed the MoU, undertaking to respect each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, not to launch any military operations, and avoid interfering in each other's internal affairs. This has sent out a positive signal to the outside world, and should be jointly safeguarded and implemented.

China stands ready to continue to provide assistance in its own way and play a constructive role for the early restoration of peace and tranquility in the region, Guo added.
