M6.9 earthquake strikes off northern Japan

A magnitude-6.9 earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan on June 25. Footage from Hachinohe in neighboring Aomori Prefecture, about 30 kilometers north of the Iwate border, showed buildings shaking during the tremor. No tsunami warning was issued, and there were no immediate reports of injuries or major damage.
