More than 160 people have been killed and multiple buildings have collapsed in Venezuela after two powerful earthquakes struck late Wednesday. A magnitude-7.2 quake hit about 160 km west of the capital Caracas at 6:04 p.m., followed less than a minute later by a stronger 7.5-magnitude jolt at a shallow depth of 10 km, according to the USGS. The country's Interim President Delcy Rodriguez declared a state of emergency and appointed a general to lead the rescue response.
