Two powerful back-to-back earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday evening. The US Geological Survey reported a magnitude-7.2 quake, followed just one minute later by a magnitude-7.5 quake, near the coastal town of Moron, roughly 160 kilometers west of the capital Caracas. The devastating tremors rank among the strongest to hit the South American nation in more than a century. Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez has declared a state of emergency.
