Aftershocks continue after powerful earthquakes hit Venezuela

More than 20 aftershocks have been recorded in Venezuela after two powerful earthquakes struck the country's north-central region on June 24, according to the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research. The US Geological Survey said the two quakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck less than a minute apart. The northern coastal state of La Guaira was among the hardest-hit areas, with collapsed buildings, damaged infrastructure and residents returning to unstable homes to retrieve basic supplies as aftershocks continued.
