Urban residents' per capita floor area has increased more than sixfold over the past 40+ years, from 6.7 square meters in 1978 to 42 square meters in 2025. On average, each household has around 1.3 residential properties.

The country has built more than 11 million units of affordable and resettlement housing, benefiting over 30 million residents during the 14th Five Year Plan (2021-2025). Over 240,000 old residential communities have undergone renovations, bringing benefits to 110 million residents.
