A powerful storm lashed central New Zealand on June 26, toppling trees, grounding flights and leaving thousands without power. MetService issued multiple severe weather warnings as a low-pressure system swept across the country. Wellington Airport said around 200 flights were canceled due to strong winds. Wellington Electricity said crews had restored service to about 3,000 customers, but some 4,000 remained without power.
