The Desert "Power Bank" That Never Sleeps

CGTN

00:46

The vast Gobi deserts of northwest China are now emerging as new high grounds of the green energy revolution. This 100MW molten-salt tower CSP plant in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, employs over 12,000 heliostats to concentrate sunlight onto a 260-meter tower. Equipped with thermal storage, it ensures consistent 24/7 power generation, producing 390 million kWh annually and reducing CO₂ emissions by 350,000 tons. As China's first 100MW-class CSP demonstration project with full IP rights, it offers a reliable, dispatchable clean energy source and establishes a benchmark for large-scale CSP development aligned with the country's carbon-peaking and carbon-neutrality objectives.
