More than 20 aftershocks have been recorded in Venezuela after two powerful earthquakes struck the country's north-central region on June 24, according to the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the two quakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck less than a minute apart. In a preliminary estimate, the agency warned the death toll could potentially rise to between 10,000 and 100,000.

A CGTN Stringer described the terrifying scenes during the two powerful earthquakes: car alarms blaring, streets crumbling, people fleeing in panic and trees shaking – it was like a scene straight out of a horror movie. She said that the affected areas are facing food supply problems, along with disruptions to electricity, water and internet services. She hopes for support so that normal life can resume as soon as possible.
