On the evening of June 24, two powerful earthquakes, both above magnitude 7.0, struck Venezuela in quick succession. On June 26, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced that the death toll had risen to 920.

A CGTN stringer in the capital, Caracas, interviewed multiple survivors, who shared stories of loss, anxiety, and fragile hope. One lost his home and all his belongings and watched a neighboring building collapse, with his friends trapped beneath the rubble. Rescue teams across the country are stretched to their limits and ordinary citizens have stepped forward to join the relief efforts. For all those interviewed, life will never be the same. But their immediate priority remains clear: to do everything in their power to save every life they can.
