China delivers mega car carrier with room for 10,800 vehicles

China delivered its third 10,800-car equivalent unit vehicle carrier in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, on June 29, marking progress in the country's batch production of ultra-large car carriers. Built by Guangzhou Shipyard International under China State Shipbuilding Corporation, the vessel is 230 meters long and 40 meters wide, with 14 vehicle decks and a dual-fuel propulsion system using liquefied natural gas and conventional fuel. The carrier can transport electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered cars and heavy-duty trucks, and will be leased to a logistics company in the Republic of Korea for operation. Its onboard systems include smart garage security and 360-degree panoramic monitoring to support safer and smarter navigation.
