China will provide an additional 100 million yuan (about $14 million) in emergency humanitarian assistance to Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Monday.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Guo Jiakun said the new package in the form of relief supplies comes on top of the cash assistance already provided by the Chinese government.

The supplies, which will support disaster relief operations and post-earthquake reconstruction, will be delivered to Venezuela as soon as possible, Guo said.

China has also provided satellite imagery of the affected areas to assist Venezuela in earthquake rescue efforts, he added.

In addition to state-level support, Chinese enterprises and local Chinese community organizations in Venezuela have voluntarily contributed engineering equipment and medical supplies urgently needed for rescue operations. They have also organized rescue teams to participate in search and rescue efforts.

"China will continue to provide further assistance in line with the evolving needs of the disaster response in Venezuela," Guo said.
